Convention Used In This Guide
The following is a list of terms used throughout this guide. Take a moment to
familiarize yourself with the language used in this guide and to reinforce your
understanding of basic terminology.
The word Feature is used in 2 context:
- Kml Builder refers to features as part of the software components ie.: XML
Editor feature.
- Google Earth calls Placemarks, Network Links, Folders, Documents and
Overlays as features.
All hyperlinks followed by
are links to resource on the Internet and will
open in a separate window.
Hierarchical submenus are noted as Menu » Submenu Item. For
example, the Options... command of the Tools
menu would be described in this guide as Choose Tools »
Options...
Ctrl, Shift, or Alt followed by a letter means hold down that key while
pressing the letter. For example, Ctrl+Alt+S means hold down
the Ctrl and Alt keys while pressing the S
key.
- Ctrlclick
- Press and hold down the Control (CTRL) key while clicking
the left mouse button.
- Click
- Pressing and releasing the left mouse button once.
- Right-click
- Pressing and releasing the right mouse button once.
- Double-click
- Pressing and releasing the left mouse button twice within 1 second or
less.
- Click and drag or drag
- Pressing the left mouse button, holding it down and moving the mouse
simultaneously.
- Drag-and-drop
- Clicking to select an item, holding down the mouse button, then dragging
and releasing.
- Scroll
- Using the scroll bars on the sides of the application window by clicking
the slider box, holding down the mouse button and dragging.
- Graphic cues
- This guide uses several types of graphic elements. Some show the window or
a dialog box that will appear during an operation. When this type of graphic
illustration is used, every effort is made to show the element exactly as it
is displayed on window.

- Right-click popup menus
- Depending on the currently selected Kml Builder window or object, it may
provide access, with a right mouse click, to many commonly-used commands for
that object.
